Eating vegetarian in Philly is not as difficult as it may seem. The city of soft pretzels, wiz, and cheese steaks is more vegetarian friendly than most people know, and one of the champions of the vegetarian scene is in your neighborhood.
Not your basic veggie friendly spot, Mama’s Vegetarian is literally the mother of all vegetarian stops here in Philly. Creating various offerings of Kosher, Middle Eastern, and Vegetarian cuisines, this local favorite is located on 20th street right near the Edgewater. While their menu might not be as expansive as some other local vegetarian spots, where Mama’s lacks in the number of offerings, it makes up for in the quality of food. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with Mama’s hummus plate!
Mama’s Vegetarian also boasts Philly’s favorite falafel. In fact, Mama’s Vegetarian has an amazing reputation for delicious and dynamic eats, having their website flooded with positive reviews from fellow Philadelphians as well as Philadelphia Magazine, NBC 10, and VegGuide.org.
A cash only restaurant, Mama’s Vegetarian is open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 9pm, Friday from 11am to 3pm, and Sunday from noon to 7pm.
Mama’s Vegetarian is located at 18 S. 20th Street (between Market & Chestnut St), a quick 15 minute walk or 7 minute drive from the Edgewater community and, as you can see, is definitely worth the trip.
