April 7th, 2017
April is here, and as great as hanging out at the Edgewater apartments is, we know everyone is looking for reasons to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. Spending time outdoors can be tricky when you live in the city, but Philadelphia is never short of cool activities to check out. So we made this guide to all the best ways to enjoy the spring weather in the neighborhood.
The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia – Feel like exploring Japanese culture while you explore the outside? The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates and showcases the blooming of over 1,000 cherry blossom trees. Visitors can also enjoy lived mixed martial art performances, as well as origami and sushi making classes. This year the festival is being held April 1st-April 9th, with the final day being “Sakura Sunday”, a grand finale of sorts to the event. Tickets are 15 dollars.
Bartram’s Mile Expansion Grand Opening – On April 22nd a 1.1-mile expansion of the Schuylkill Banks Recreational Trail opens to the public. The trail runs through historic Bartram’s Garden, the nation’s first botanical garden and an amazing gem of horticulture in Philadelphia. The fifteen-foot wide path will offer several new recreational activities and feature beautiful skyline views. The best part is the original trail runs right by the Edgewater, so hop on the path right at Race Street Crossing and see it for yourself.
Free Yoga at Race Street Pier – Starting April 10th the public can participate in free daily yoga classes at Race Street Pier. Soak up views of the city and river while you stretch out and get fit. Depending on the day, classes start at 7 am, 9:30 am, or 6 pm. Some days there are even two classes held. Race Street Pier is an amazing Philadelphia setting for getting outdoors, with or without the sun salutations.
