There aren’t many things that capture that warm and toasty autumn feeling like a tall glass of apple cider. This especially true for hard cider, but just like trying to find your favorite seasonal beer, finding the right hard cider can sometimes be tricky. There’s truly so much diversity in the way different ciders are sourced, prepared, and fermented. Luckily, there’s a festival coming to Philadelphia that celebrates this diversity amongst apples and spices. CiderFest is this Saturday, September 30th and it’s the perfect place to find your perfect fall cider.
CiderFest is held in picturesque Fairmount Park, which means attendees can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage while sipping their samples. The event runs from noon until 4pm and is based around six of the park’s most historic landmark houses. Visitors can tour each house while they try the different ciders, and learn more about Fairmount Park’s rich past. There will also be live music from local bands throughout the afternoon.Transportation from place to place is provided and included in the ticket price via the Philly PHLASH bus.
There’s an emphasis on local sourcing for each sample. This year’s cideries include Stone & Key Sellers, Haymaker Meadery, Hardball Cider, Ploughman Cider, Wyndridge Farm, Kurant Cider, and Frecon’s Cidery. Each ticket includes a souvenir tasting cup. Grab your tickets online at the Fairmount Park Conservancy website. Proceeds go to the maintenance and restoration of Fairmount Park’s historic houses.
