One of the staples of the summertime is local farmer’s markets, and the area around your Edgewater apartment is full of them!
Sure, you can grab fresh produce and other tasty treats at the local supermarket, but there’s something even more satisfying about knowing that your food purchase is as fresh as can be, and went to support local farmers. That’s not to mention the fun that can be had from wandering around a farmer’s market! Being surrounded by other foodies can introduce you to new recipes and kitchen inspirations, while you get to mix and mingle with neighbors with similar interests and learn about the local farming community and food vendors.
Here are some great summer farmer’s markets to get your creative culinary juices flowing:
Clark Park Farmer’s Market: Now in its 20th year, Clark Park Farmer’s Market, about two miles from your Edgewater apartment, is one of the biggest and best around. The market is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays year-round, and also operates Thursday evenings from the spring through the fall. Stock up on fresh fruits and veggies, canned goods and bakery items and grab a new plant for your Edgewater apartment. The market also features the opportunity to sample new concoctions from local cideries and enjoy live music.
Schuylkill River Park Farmer’s Market: Go shopping with a view at Schuylkill River Park Farmer’s Market. Take a stroll six blocks from your Edgewater apartment on the Schuylkill River Trail to this popular market, which has been a staple in Center City for more than 10 years. The market operates from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
