Holiday Shopping Season is Here!

Shopping - Holiday

The holidays are upon us! That means family dinners, out-of-town guests, much-needed time off from work, light displays and much more! The holidays also come with anther not-so-fun aspect: shopping. No matter what holidays you celebrate or how large your family, it’s likely that you’ve got to grab at least a few gifts for loved ones this year. But with crowded stores, mall parking lots that are impossible to navigate and hefty price tags, holiday shopping can seem like quite a chore. Skip the big-box stores this year and instead shop local at one (or more!) of the dozens of stores within walking distance of your Edgewater apartment.

Whether you want to grab a new sweater for Mom, a book for your bookworm brother or jewelry for your special someone, you can find all of that and much more without having to go far from home—and you can avoid all the mall madness in the meantime.

One of the area’s most eclectic places to shop is Reading Terminal Market, one mile from your Edgewater apartment. The indoor market specializes in food, but you can get much more than a cheesesteak at this famous spot. Reading Terminal Market is home dozens of stores, many of which don’t just sell foods and snacks for locals on the go but also offer beautifully packaged food and floral arrangements, gift boxes of hand-selected candy and much more.  A number of the shops have a Philly focus, featuring books by local authors, clothing celebrating the city (and of course its sports teams!) and foods that the city is known for (we’ve got a lot more to offer than cheesesteaks!). For the cooks in your life, grab some specialized spices, mixes or cookbooks, and for those many indecisive folks on your lift, get a gift card to the market so they can make the trip themselves to see all that it has to offer.

Reading Terminal Market is one of Philadelphia’s most popular tourist attractions, but its creative culinary stands also offer plenty for locals to love, especially when holiday-shopping season rolls around.
