Old City to Offer Festive, Historic Fun

old city door

Old City is known for its history, culture, dining and shopping—and all will be on display through a series of holiday-themed activities this month in the neighborhood.

The area, about two miles from your Edgewater apartment, is home to some of the city’s oldest and most-visited sites—Betsy Ross House, Independence Hall, Christ Church—and the neighborhood will capitalize on its reputation as a haven for history this holiday season. Historic Holiday Nights invites locals and visitors to stroll the neighborhood, its historic buildings, shops and restaurants for deals and steals once a week through the end of the month.

Like its popular summer series, Historic Holiday Nights will feature sales from 5-8 p.m. on Thursdays at dozens of area businesses, including boutiques, art galleries, salons and eateries. Grab unique Philly gifts to cross some folks off your holiday list, treat yourself to a fresh, holiday cut or take your sweetheart out to a romantic holiday dinner—all for less! Historic sites will also get into the spirit on the season on Thursdays with live music, art displays and more. Make a full night of it and get a dose of history, followed by some shopping and finishing with dinner and drinks—all surrounded by the festive lights and decorations that abound in the neighborhood.

There’s plenty to see just strolling the streets, especially as Old City launches its first Window-Decorating Contest. Businesses in the area will go head to head for the top prize, and passersby can even get in on the fun by voting for their favorites, with the chance to win an Old City Prize Pack. Also new to the holiday lineup this year is the weekend pop-up Old City Holiday Market, which will feature artists and artisans, entertainment, food and more.

We hope to see you there!
