St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest party days of the year! No matter if you’re Irish or not, anyone can find excitement in dressing head to toe in green and raising a glass with old friends and new. However, such a popular occasion can mean getting out and about can be a hassle—with traffic, surging Uber prices and packed bars. If you’re looking for a St. Patty’s outing without all the headaches, consider sticking close to your Edgewater apartment, where you’ll find an authentic Irish pub that’s perfect for celebrating stress-free.
The Market Tavern, six blocks from your Edgewater apartment, offers genuine Irish fare—without all the fanfare! Formerly longtime Irish hot spot Slainte, The Market Tavern just reopened at the end of 2018 with a new name and an exciting facelift—so if you haven’t checked it out yet, St. Patrick’s Day is a great reason to do so!
The restaurant and bar, named after an Irish town, is on the west side of the Schuylkill River, meaning it’s a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of Center City. Anyone who’s gone out in downtown Philly for St. Patty’s Day knows how packed the watering holes can get, but at The Market Tavern, revelers can celebrate the holiday while still being able to enjoy conversation with the group.
The Market Tavern serves up a diverse menu, with many Irish influences, including fish and chips, bangers and mash and the Irish pub burger—though even diners who don’t have Irish taste buds can find plenty to choose from! Its drink menu is just as plentiful, with 26 beers on draft and an array of bottled beers, well drinks and wines—all of which are on rotating happy hour specials throughout the week.
Lots of venues try to hop on the St. Patty’s bandwagon but, at The Market Tavern, partiers can enjoy quality and authentic Irish food and drink without sacrificing for crowds—all within walking distance of their Edgewater apartment.
